Georgios Sfyridis wurde 1964 in Thessaloniki, Griechenland geboren. Dort studierte er Klavier/Musiktheorie am staatlichen Konservatorium und Philologie an der Aristoteles-Universität. 1989 setzte er sein Musikstudium in Karlsruhe fort, in den Fächern Komposition und Dirigieren. 1994 ging Sfyridis nach Berlin, absolvierte ein Aufbaustudium für Komposition und erhielt einen Lehrauftrag für Dirigieren zeitgenössischer Musik an der Universität der Künste. In dieser Zeit gründete er das Ensemble für Neue Musik "Mosaik". Nach 3 Jahren erfolgreicher Arbeit verließ er dieses Ensemble, um sich seiner wahren musikalischen Sprache zu widmen: zurück zu den eigenen Wurzeln, offen für alle Musikrichtungen, weg vom Diktat pseudophilosophischer akademischer Neuer Musik. So gründete Sfyridis im Jahr 2000 zusammen mit Tim Florence das multinationale Ensemble "cornucopia", um einen fruchtbaren interdisziplinären Dialog in Gang zu setzen und einen Austausch jenseits festgefahrener Spartenabgrenzungen zu suchen, um so die Grenze zwischen Komponist und Musiker, zwischen notiert und improvisiert, zwischen Wort und Musik wie zwischen Konzert und Theater zu überwinden. Es folgten zahlreiche Konzerte in Berlin und im Ausland. Im Jahr 2002 erschien seine CD "Perithorio" mit Werken für 12 Instrumente und Stimme. Georgios Sfyridis lebt und arbeitet als freischaffender Komponist und Dirigent in Berlin.

Georgios Sfyridis was born in Thessaloniki in 1964. There he studied piano and music theory at the State Conservatorium of Music and philology at the Aristoteles University. In 1989 he continued professional musical studies in Karlsruhe in Germany, majoring in composition and conducting. Berlin drew Sfyridis in 1994, where he completed postgraduate studies in composition and officially took charge of the performance of contemporary works at the Universitaet der Künste, conducting many premieres himself. During this time he founded the Ensemble Mosaik for New Music, which he subsequently left three years later, in order to devote himself to his true musical language: opening up to broader musical directions in the search for his own inner musical roots. And away from the dictates of the institutional, pseudo-philosophical "Neue Musik". So it came about in 2000 that, together with Australian Tim Florence, he founded the multinational ensemble Cornucopia, to develop a fruitful inter-disciplinary dialogue, to seek an exchange beyond rigid ideological boundaries: to "soften" the borders between composer and performer, between notated and improvised music, between word and music, concert and theatre. Countless performances have followed over the years, in Berlin and abroad. His CD "Perithorio" appeared in 2002. Georgios Sfyridis lives and works as a freelance composer and conductor in Berlin.
